Hello, I'm Lauren

I'm wife and mama of three,  unashamedly a lover of good coffee and beautiful books.

With our family's roots in Zimbabwe, we now live in Johannesburg where I have homeschooled my three children with Charlotte Mason's philosophy, for over a decade. I am also an instructor for courses offered at the Charlotte Mason Institute, and I have a health coaching practice too.

The journey hasn't always been easy, and I don't have it all figured out. But each year has brought a little more freedom, a little less fear, and a deeper trust that every child is a whole person, worthy of a this rich and living education.

Through my practical guides and mentorship, I'd love to help you build that kind of education for your family too.

A Guide to a Charlotte Mason Education in South Africa

A Charlotte Mason education in South Africa deserves resources written for our soil - relatable books, places and seasons - not simply those taken from another country's booklists.

Under African Skies is a built from twelve years of homeschooling in Southern Africa. It's the practical guide

I wish I'd had as a young mum: the philosophy as the foundation, and the freedom to build a living education that belongs to your home.

Inside the guide:

  • African living books listed by form

  • South African nature study - biomes and specific topics

  • Registration and the BELA Act

  • High school matriculation options

  • Reflection and planning pages

"Our aim in education is to give a full life. We owe it to them to initiate an immense number of interests. Life should be all living, and not merely a tedious passing of time; not all doing or all feeling or all thinking – the strain would be too great – but, all living; that is to say, we should be in touch wherever we go, whatever we hear, whatever we see, with some manner of vital interest."

Mentorship

Walk this road with someone alongside you.

After twelve years of  homeschooling with Miss Mason's philosophy, and plenty of challenges along the way, I've learned so much and would love to share it with you.

In 1:1 sessions, we work through different areas of a Mason education, answering your questions and discussing your challenges. As a certified health and life coach, my work helps you build a solid foundation and guides you to find practical rhythms that fit your real life.

The aim is to create a vision that fits your family, so rather than feeling overwhelmed and uncertain, you have clarity and confidence in moving forward.

I've homeschooled through moving countries and cancer treatment, and I've experienced both the joys and challenges of homeschooling,  but I know that a living education is possible right where you are.

The Village

The Village is a free monthly online Charlotte Mason support group where we can come together to ask questions, share experiences, and encourage one another. We meet on the second Monday of each month at 7:30pm.

I’m not there as an expert, but as a fellow homeschooler, so come with your questions, or to contribute your wisdom and experience, or simply be vulnerable about where you’re struggling. There’s room for it all.

Join us whenever you can. We'd love to have you.
